| For more than 70 years, All Children's Hospital has cared for children who need special medical attention. All Children's has grown into a regional center for treatment, teaching and research, the hallmark of a major pediatric referral center. All Children's Specialty Care of Lakeland brings the same level of quality care provided at All Children's Hospital closer to home for the children of central Florida. It is not another hospital. It is a 21,000-square-foot clinic facility that provides high-quality medical, laboratory and therapeutic services in a convenient outpatient setting. All of the physicians, nurses and other professionals who work in the center are extensively trained to meet the special needs of children of all ages. They work closely with community physicians, providing a continuum of comprehensive care for children with complex medical problems. Just as important, they treat young patients and their families with special care, and with concern for their emotional well-being. Of course, All Children's Specialty Care of Lakeland features many of the unique touches that make All Children's Hospital such a special place. Two waiting areas complete with toys can help alleviate the stress a child may feel before a medical visit. What Services are Available? Pediatric subspecialty care in a variety of disciplines is available to children who are referred by their community physicians. The Specialty Care center is home to colorful exam rooms and facilities for these outpatient visits. Advanced communications technologies permit teleconference consultations with other subspecialists based at All Children's Hospital. At the Scottish Rite Center for Childhood Language Disorders, located within All Children's Specialty Care of Lakeland, our speech-language pathologists evaluate and treat articulation and language development, voice and stuttering disorders, oral-motor feeding skills, and other pediatric speech disorders. In the Audiology Department, our master's level audiologists evaluate hearing problems in children and adults and provide hearing aid fitting, dispensing, and adjustment services, with support from the Sertoma Foundation in Florida. Some children have special motor or sensory needs, or require help with specific developmental challenges. Pediatric occupational therapy and pediatric physical therapy services are available in a special treatment area within All Children's Specialty Care of Lakeland. Presurgical consultations and follow-up exams often can be accomplished right at the center, so that families whose children need surgery at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg make fewer long trips. Advanced telecommunications technology can help the pediatric specialists at the Specialty Care Center to consult with the many experts at All Children's Hospital A variety of community education programs and additional pediatric services can be added in response to local needs. As the Lakeland area continues to grow, All Children's Specialty Care of Lakeland can grow to help an even greater number of children and families closer to home. |
