Canopic Jars
Egyptians believed strongly in preparing for life after death, this has been well
known throughout their history. Featured above are a set of vases called
Canopic Jars. These jars were used as part of the mummification process.
Embalmers would remove several organs from the body and place them inside
the jars. The lids were often created after the Four Sons of Horus, the
guardians of the internal organs of the deceased.  Imsety, Hapy, Duamutef and
Qebehsenuef, Gods that were in charge of different body parts.  Also of
interest, is the fact the brain was not considered an important organ as was
disposed of upon death.
Religious beliefs

Qebehsenuef (hawk form)
protected the large
intestines.

Duamutef  (jackal form)
protected the stomach
